Apiary Tools should be usable by every beekeeper, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control or magnification. The target is WCAG 2.1 level AA across the website and the mobile apps.
What's in place
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, and interactive controls take focus.
- Forms use real labels, and controls like the tip slider carry text alternatives so a screen reader announces the option, not just a number.
- Light and dark mode, with contrast problems treated as bugs and fixed when found.
- Images that carry information have text alternatives; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.
- The interface is translated into 22 languages, and Arabic and Hebrew render fully right-to-left.
- Accessibility checks run automatically on every change to the code.
Known limitations
- The forage range map and bloom calendar are visual by nature. The data behind them is available as text on the same pages, but the map itself is not fully non-visual.
- Charts in the hive tracker summarise data that also appears in the inspection records, which remain the accessible source.
- PDF exports are generated for print and are not tagged PDFs yet.
