Which tools use your unit preferences?
Most of the calculators read these defaults the moment they load, so you are entering numbers in the units you already think in:
- Weight drives the Honey Yield, Oxalic Acid Dosage, Mead and Pollen Patty calculators.
- Volume drives the Sugar Syrup and Mead calculators, plus any syrup amounts.
- Temperature shows up wherever a tool references the weather or a treatment range.
You can still switch units inside any calculator for a one-off. That change applies to that tool for the session and does not overwrite the default you save here.
Metric or imperial
There is no single correct choice. Pounds, gallons and Fahrenheit are common for beekeepers in the United States, while kilograms, liters and Celsius are standard most other places. Pick whichever matches your scale, jars and thermometer so you are not converting in your head in the bee yard.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do my preferences sync across devices?
They sync if you are signed in to My Hives. Your weight, volume and temperature defaults are saved to your account and load on any device you log in to. If you are not signed in, the settings stay in the browser you set them in.
Does changing a unit affect the math?
No. Units only change how you enter numbers and how results are shown. The conversions behind each calculator are exact, so switching between pounds and kilograms or gallons and liters gives you the same answer in different units.
Why did a calculator open in different units?
Each calculator remembers a unit you pick inside it for that session, which can differ from your saved default. To make a unit stick everywhere, set it here and save.
How do I reset to the defaults?
Clear your browser data for the site, or just pick the units you want here and save again. There is no separate reset button.
